I'm sure there are some students out there who are like the one in the above picture. I teach the ones are NOT even close to being like that!! Now I understand better why there are mean teachers and that is because that's just the way they have to be.
I am a too nice teacher. And I have suffered because of it. I've had to get a reality check about the students I am tutoring. They are punks. It doesn't matter how nice you are to them, they still think you're mean and then they take advantage of you.
Yesterday I was mean. And they responded quite well to that! Hooray for me. Hopefully since I have done it once I will be able to continue doing it. Here's hoping for my sanity and my sense of accomplishment!

hooray! i'm glad that you at least figured out something that will work, even if it's having to be mean. you show those punks who's boss! :)
I learned very quickly my first year of teaching that being nice doesn't work with every student. Some kids just need a mean teacher! It sounds like you are doing a great job, I hope all goes well.

My students think it's funny when I try to be mean.
harrison and i always talk about why teachers have to be mean most of the time. he understands because the rotten children bug him too.
